I have loved writing since I was a teenager, and reading has been a part of my life since I was old enough to hold a book in my hands. All of what I did write was lost, with regret, due to the occasional moments when melancholy would overtake my thought processes and lead me to believe that throwing away the piles of paper gathered here and there would actually make me feel better. Although cleaning and being organized are wonderful traits that I do hold dear to my heart, all of my thoughts that occurred during those years of growing into a woman and becoming the mother to six beautiful children were all lost.
In 2002, a dear friend and a Mom to me, Sherry, gave me my first journal and I promised to her that I would never throw away my writings again. I have lived up to that promise. She was also the one who inspired me to become a Registered Nurse. The beauty that Sherry gave to me has made huge changes in my life and has formed the person I am today. I am so grateful for the love and guidance she has given to me. There was another dear friend, that kept and cared for all of my writing, keeping it close and protected, until I was ready to move forward and delve into all of those memories. He was the Keeper of My Dreams~Thank You.
My purpose in starting this blog is to share the love that I experience and see. Most of what I write is in regards to this strong emotion. According to Merriam Webster, when love is used as a noun, it means to have a strong affection for another…warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion…a person’s adoration of God. As a verb, love means to hold dear, to feel a lover’s passion, caress and to take pleasure in. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:12-13
This is why my blog is titled “Threads of Red.” I do believe that even when I write in another emotion, love is still involved. There may be pain, anger, and loneliness staggering our lives, but love is the one to bring you back to where you need to be. My poem titled “Tapestry” reveals my thoughts of how I look at my life. All of the different threads woven together as well as the ones that are straggling off of the worn edge, all of the colors of life, our friends and family, help us to be who we are, everyday. After all of these years of writing, I was invited this past summer to become a member of The Allegheny Valley Poets~a thrilling moment for me.
The most important thing that I want to have happen within these pages of words, thoughts, poems, and short stories, is that you might find a new way to see love, to show your love, and to recieve this most glorious gift, without hesitation.
